Stepney Way & Stepney Green, Stepney

As the Principal Contractor, Lawtech completed the removal of the existing combustible timber rainscreen cladding and replacement with new non-combustible Rockpanel Woods cladding in balcony areas at Stepney Way and Stepney Green. The works also included the installation of Tyvek Firecurb breather membrane and new Rockwool mineral wool insulation, the removal and replacement of the existing timber supporting frame with a new mineral wool support frame, the installation of AIM fire barriers, and the replacement of timber decking on 20 balconies with AliDeck fire resistant decking. A variation to the contract also included the installation of EWI at 224 Stepney Way.

Following the commencement of this project, the government implemented the new COVID tier system which was followed by the second national lockdown in early November to manage the rise in COVID cases. We were able to mitigate this as we continued to reinforce our COVID-specific measures and policies which we had developed and implemented during the first government imposed lockdown. These measures included one-way systems on site, social distancing, appropriate PPE, staggered start and lunch times, and sanitising stations across the site. This enabled us to continue with the works whilst ensuring the health and safety of all operatives and residents.

We worked closely with Clarion Housing Group throughout to ensure they, along with the residents, were satisfied with the works at each stage. As residents were prohibited from accessing their balconies throughout to maintain their safety as works took place, we ensured that they were kept informed in order to minimise disruption and inconvenience. Due to the high quality of our work and our coordination with Clarion, we are now one of their preferred cladding contractors.
