DIY Day at Exeter Road and Beaconsfield Road Estates

Lawtech can proudly lay claim to ‘building greener communities’, but at our recent DIY Day for residents of the Exeter Road and Beaconsfield Road estates it was a case of the community building on the green!

With the year-long programme of refurbishments at Enfield now over half way through, Customer Service Manager Tracy Corbyn decided the time was right to pass on some homecare skills to the residents.  Saturday 20th June saw gazebos pitched on the green beside Ashcombe House where Lawtech’s skilled tradesmen were ready to teach some basic DIY.  Tracy and Site Resident Liaison Officer (RLO) Michelle Gerard gamely assisted with demonstrations of shelf installation and picture hanging before the tenants donned their safety gear to show the Lawtech team how it should be done.

Home improvements may not capture kids’ imaginations, but ice cream and the chance to clamber over fire engines certainly do!  White Watch from Enfield Fire Station came along to support Lawtech in educating the junior residents about the potential hazards of building works.  The enthusiastic youngsters had an access-all areas tour of the fire truck and learned some valuable lessons about staying safe around site.

Lawtech is working to refresh six blocks in Enfield with new windows and improved balconies.  The application of external wall insulation will entirely transform the look of the estate.  Based on site for the duration of the project, Lawtech RLOs provide a consistent point-of-contact for tenants, guiding them through the inevitable disruption of the regeneration process.  Michelle and Tracy saw the DIY Day as a chance to give something back to the community in recognition of this partnership and they were delighted with the response.  When Lawtech leave site in October, its legacy will be an army of newly-trained residents eager to put their DIY skills into action.
