Orchard Estate, Redbridge
Contract Type: Residential Refurbishment
Client: London Borough of Redbridge
Lawtech worked with Carillion on one of the largest and boldest CESP schemes in the UK, Orchard Estate in Redbridge.
The London Borough of Redbridge required the refurbishment of six 11-storey tower blocks and low-rise maisonettes at the Orchard Estate in Woodford. Their architect had designed a bold combination of renders for the substantial External Wall Insulation project, totalling 520 properties.
This unique scheme entailed the installation of products from three different system providers, Rockwool, Weber and Permarock. The systems were affixed to an array of contoured substrates, requiring careful design and management of Lawtech’s scaffold.
In addition to 13,000m2 of EWI, Lawtech delivered:
- curtain walling
- energy efficient replacement windows and doors
- concrete balcony repairs.
These measures complemented Carillion’s installation of innovative ECOpod District Heating Systems. The scheme achieved a U-Value of 0.27W/(m2K).
Community focus was important at Orchard Estate. A local artist delivered a painting course to pupils at a nearby primary school. The students were then invited onto the site where they practised their new artistic skills by decorating the compound hoarding.
