External Wall Insulation

There are approximately 9 million dwellings of solid wall structure in the UK.  External Wall Insulation (EWI) is a viable, cost-effective solution to improving the thermal performance of these properties.

EWI is most commonly applied to solid masonry, concrete and brick buildings.  Traditionally, older-style prefabricated and framework properties with metal or timber panel infills have been deemed hard-to-treat in terms of insulation.  EWI delivers an effective modern solution.

Heat penetrates solid walls easily.  Insulated render has revolutionised the way that buildings old and new, residential and commercial, are built or refurbished.  U-values can be achieved that meet current and proposed Part L Building Regulations affordably and with minimal disruption to occupants.

Insulated render systems offer designers the scope to realise their vision, from matching existing heritage features to creating original, contemporary aesthetics.  They are extremely versatile and can be applied to the majority of substrates.  Advanced technology has introduced smooth, rough, dash, brick effect and lightweight brick slip finishes to the market.  As an approved installer for all leading UK manufacturers, Lawtech offers over 2,000 colour options, from crisp white and subtle pastel shades to vibrant hues that transform buildings into landmarks.

Insulation may also be finished with an overloading rail system.  Rainscreen, aluminium, terracotta and timber, cladding options offer functionality with a modern look.  You can learn more about Cladding here.

Lawtech has installed over 2,000,000 m2 of EWI to date.  We are approved installers for the UK’s leading manufacturers:  Rockwool, Weber, Wetherby, Sto, Dryvit, Permarock, Alsescco, Soltherm and Alumasc

EWI is built up through a series of components.  The first and most important layer is the insulation itself.  Many types are available – including Mineral Wool, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), Phenolic, Polyisocyanurate (PIR) and Cork - each offering features and benefits to suit your application.  The insulation is topped with basecoat render, reinforcement mesh and a choice of decorative finishes.  You can learn more about insulation types here.

Professionally installed EWI reduces the risk of condensation by moving the dew point to the exterior of a building.  Occupiers benefit from increased thermal comfort and reduced energy bills.  As an active member of the Solid Wall Insulation Guarantee Agency (SWIGA), Lawtech delivers EWI with the assurance of structural integrity, longevity and proven effectiveness
